Frank Lloyd Wright House Is Rebuilt Anew, Piece by Piece, in Arkansas
Such prejudice coming from supposedly enlightened folks.
We here in Arkansas are thrilled to have the jaw dropping museum in the middle of the woods. Art from everywhere, and new surprises (such as the FLW house) are regular at the museum.
C’mon down – we will show you some Arkansas hospitality gorgeous scenery, and a world class museum.
Major Overhaul Plans Unveiled for Woodruff Arts Center
Hopefully not since it looks nice and since that’s how MANY of the art museums of the world are set up. (See: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Chicago Museum of Modern Art, Cleveland Museum of Art) Most of them are set up either in a park-like setting or with a lawn. Love the lawn. People should be lounging around on it reading, picnicking, etc.
I am still waiting for Curbed’s expose on the fact that their Editor is on staff at a major museum in San Francisco, which (surprise, surprise) has received HUGE donations from the same folks trying to cram the Fisher Museum in the Presidio proposal down our throats. The Fisher Museum does not belong in the Presidio. Save the Presidio Bowling Center, the last real family bowling center in our fair city.

Curbed Awards '11 Architecture: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly
FYI – the WTC museum is not open, and isn’t scheduled to open until what now appears to be 2013 at the earliest (the PANY-NJ and Memorial/Museum Foundation are in a $440 million spat over who owes who what). Construction on the museum is at a standstill.
The memorial has been open since 9/12/2011 to the general public.
I was just thinking about this, and if the idea is to upgrade the plaza, someone thould look into moving the big Egyptian obelisk now in Central Park, behind the museum, to the front of the museum. I think the obelisk belongs to the city, but its sort of buried in its current location and if you could move it to the plaza in the front of the museum it would hardly matter what else is there.
Vengeful Landlord Triples Rent on Santa Monica Museum of Art
the moral of this story might be "if you’re getting cheap rent in an arts complex that no one in the arts has taken seriously FORYEARS, keep your mouth shut" – especially if you’re running a fourth rate museum which only exists because the owners want something nearby they can call a museum, to sell spaces in the complex. that museum is the curatorial equivalent of a food court, or a fountain.
I hope MOMA doesn’t tear down the Folk Art Museum building, but I know they probably will. It’s such an interesting building and really well-designed inside and out. It’s a shame attendance at the museum never reached expectations. I know it’s part of the creative destruction of the city and all that, but I think the Folk Art Museum building is worth keeping.
WeHo Staff Not Into Landmarking Sunset Strip Tower Records
Tower Records Sunset was a pinnacle location for Hollywood for decades. It is an odd location on the elbow curve of the Strip yet a combination of preservation and the future is needed while the wants of the neighbors and the business lifeline of the road. A great historic restoration museum …..maybe a Hollywood Museum museum community center sponsored by the music industry.
Is USC Deal to Take Over LA Coliseum a War on Children?
Why all this talk about parking when a brand new rail line runs literally in front of the Museum/Coliseum? The Natural History Museum should do like the American Museum of Natural History does, namely offer discounted tickets to those who show a fare card or receipt showing that they arrived by rail/bus. Why make it easier for cars to park in the complex when we all know cars are killing us physically and financially?
