Alternative Obama Center designs, locations revealed ahead of court hearing
Context. WP is a highly blighted area with a massive (underutilized) park space vs JP. Don’t get me wrong, there are myriads of empty parcels he could go without utilizing park space. But, I’m also not one of those myopic individuals who believes just because you’re "building" on park space you’re somehow ‘taking away’ from that space. It’s a ludicrous concept. These spaces ARE in fact designed for public consumption and in many ways make the parks around them much easier to enjoy. A park doesn’t have to be this wide open expanse full of nothing. Hell, we lost the Lucas Museum because of this same misplaced ideology — even though the plan called for tripling the current green/park space that already existed there. The Museum Campus is one of the most beautiful examples of this in the world … if it was up to these NIMBY park purists, all of Chicago would be nothing but a grass prairie.
