I like the Denver Museum, but I don’t think any of the buildings are particularly noteworthy; the lack of cohesion within their campus is rather disturbing.
What are the salient features of the North Building relative to an art museum, in your opinion?
It certainly does have more display possibilities than the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
MoMA To Preserve Folk Art Facade, Open Garden in Expansion
Put the facade of the American Folk Art Museum in the court of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum, opposite the facade of the Branch Bank of the United States, with a sign telling how MOMA destroyed their museum neighbor.
LACMA is Planning a Frank Gehry Hotel/Condo/Museum Tower
Interesting concept for sure. Govan sure seems to have his fingers in a bunch of pots (patron’s pockets?). There a Gehry/Architecture Museum/Archive megadevelopment, a Zumpthor/Museum megadevelopment, a Piano/ex-SPF/Academy Museum megadevelopment, plus throw in an occasional art purchase or show development, too.
Renzo Piano's Whitney on the High Line Nears Completion
I think that Renzo’s days of producing good architecture are over. This is a dog. The original Whitney was at least inspiring in its context and quite original. Also, I love museums where you can get through the entire museum without experiencing museum fatigue. I am getting museum fatigue simply looking at this utterly sub-par work.
Reader Rants: WTF is Curbed's Problem With Disney?
"the museum is not a good fit for SF."
Actually, I have a feeling part of the reason the presidio was chosen was not only because Disney’s family are Northern California residents, but because Lucas is there as well. After all, Lucas has created timeless characters in both Indiana Jones and Star Wars, and when Lucas was looking for the right company to build theme park attractions out of his Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Lucas was quoted as saying that Disney was the one and only company he could conceive of of doing it right and doing them justice, which, they did, with Star Tours and the Indiana Jones Adventure (both at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea – the latter being the most amazing theme park in the world).
Meet the West Loop's Newest & Curviest Apartment Tower
@Matt from Chicago: Seriously? The plot of land that the museum will be placed on is currently a PARKINGLOT, where suburban jokers show up in their SUV’s and tail-gate. The museum is going to be FREE (Lucas is paying for it out of his own pocket, we are only giving him the land for free) and is essentially a $1 Billion gift to the City of Chicago..a gift that will generate $100 Million a year in tax revenue that will help to pay this city’s bills.
Is This Parking Lot The Future Home Of The Lucas Museum?
I know the Tribune is reporting the parking lots south of Soldier Field, but if it could fit, I think the parking lot up against 18th Street Beach would be perfect.
For one, it would be next to the Planetarium – perfect for the Star Wars context. Then think about having a massive domed museum fronting the beach. It would be beautiful. That end of the Museum Campus, if it got the Lucas site as well as the Studio Gang-planned Northerly Island renovation, would have a vitality unseen since the World’s Fair.
