Local architecture firm proposes fixes for dangerous DeKalb Avenue
And if one was especially more safe to drive on than the other, I would imagine many would choose to do so.
Except 2 blocks (~350 ft) doesn’t = 2 miles (10,560ft)
and cars don’t = bikes.
To better correlate them, we can look at time instead:
A bike can cover 350ft at a leisurely 4mph in 1 minute.
At an average speed of 25 mph, a car could cover the distance between Ponce and Memorial in about 5 minutes. (Google maps indicates 6 mins)

The small white building in the front middle already exists. Again: lots of compromise to save pretty much the smallest and least historically significant structure on the site.

If Google Maps’ diagram of the creek is accurate, and they really do have to leave a 75’ buffer around the creek, none of those buildings on the east edge of the property could get built.

On Google Maps I see a nice little trail that ends abruptly (classic Atlanta) on a curve in LaFrance street. Otherwise, looks like it’s a shoulder-to-side-view-mirror bumping for pedestrians and bikers.

DeKalb does not having control over Hosea L Williams, it’s completely within City of Atlanta therefore falls under zoning of City of Atlanta Dept of City Planning.
Where there is opportunity to redevelop, it should be up-zoned, but we should also protect the historic SFH along it (of which Hosea Williams has plenty.) Eg: Kirkwood Station, The Kirkwood apartment homes, hopefully Atlanta-DeKalb Human Services Complex.
Yes the speed limit should not be 35mph, with so many schools, homes, commercial businesses, pedestrians and cyclists.
This is a good project as it protects and renovates an existing structure, even though it’s only 2 story.
These separate commercial districts represent old streetcar stops.
