LA wants Waze to stop sending drivers down small side streets
Anybody know the overall difficulty level for residents to get their street/neighborhood closed off by gating it? (Laughlin Park, Valley Oak Dr, etc.)
Yes, the streets are public and they belong to everyone, as has been commented, but then sometimes they’re, uh, not. I’d rather not have LA turn into St Louis, with its single block wall-offs.
MARTA aims to upgrade 1,000 bus stops with shelters, benches
"for the $7.1 million job of producing the shelters, benches, rails, garbage cans, lighting, and cases for schedules and maps for 1,000 bus stops." ~ Yep, I must be missing your point. It isn’t just for the "material", but for the manufacture of many items. Build out/construction is minimal considering at most it would include pouring a concrete slab and couple hours of erecting the stop itself.
MARTA aims to upgrade 1,000 bus stops with shelters, benches
I pass by this MARTA bus stop every day. No sidewalk, no shelter, no bench, no trash can, inches from the curb of a portion of MLK Dr. where people drive as fast as 65 mph. I hope they start with the most problematic stops.
The writer of these articles always seems so shocked when the advertised listing doesn’t disclose whether or not the landlord accepts pets…why don’t you just call them before you publish the article and find out? It might add a few minutes to your "cut and paste research" but since pets seem to be such a high value amenity to you then I think others might share your curiosity and benefit from that information. Otherwise I’m not sure why you insist on including that "lack of information" in these articles. Don’t get me wrong, I obviously enjoy these articles since I’ve noticed your penchant for pet allowance. So as a fan, I recommend not mentioning pet allowance or parking unless you have the information to share. I don’t know if you consider yourself a journalist or not but if anything, you’re at least a writer, so pick up the phone and call these landlords or realtors to get a little more info to give more value to your writing. Then you’ll be providing information that is new and useful other than a collection of rental ads that match a search for $5000. Oh another suggestion…include a Google street view and maps image to provide context to readers who have no clue where some of these realtor-fabricated neighborhoods are.
Mayor’s Green New Deal calls on Angelenos to drive 6 fewer miles every day
LA has done a great job managing its own housing shortage. We have added more housing than any city in the state and that’s why Garcetti is pushing back. You almost can’t count how much we’ve added in DTLA and Hollywood, and there is a lot more coming on La Brea, Wilshire and Pico. More in Hollywood too, see article below.
Much of that new Hollywood housing, before it’s even built, has been spoken for by Netflix which goes to another point I’ve been making that has been proven to be true — more luxury housing will be quickly gobbled up by tech employees migrating to our area. A radical increase in market-rate supply will NOT make that new housing affordable, the growing demand from tech will keep rents up.
We need to fund dedicated affordable housing in places that would benefit most like Crenshaw District.
Since you read and I assume trust Curbed LA, check out these articles for some education.
Hulsey Yard neighbors overwhelmingly want green space instead of rail hub
Yeah I remember seeing the rubble pile on Google Maps. I just like urban mysteries. Would be interesting if it could be excavated, if there’s anything left. And actually, the tunnel would have existed only under the train tracks to the North, the rest was just a regular open street.
Hulsey Yard neighbors overwhelmingly want green space instead of rail hub
Just a guess:
It wasn’t up to any codes in terms of clearance or drainage and was closed.
Just from google maps it looks like it may have been converted to a stormwater sewer. You can see grates along the path it would’ve taken. There’s no evidence of it on Dekalb Ave except a rubble pile.
