Try this on for size, all you savvy renters. We're introducing our very first Rental Heatmap today, well in advance of the high season. Its task? Highlighting desirable and trendy rental buildings around town. Our 15 selections were culled from Yelp reviews, tipsters, and a moderate amount of sleuthing, with the added guidance of YoChicago's At-a-glance apartment lists. We've tried hard to abstain from prejudices, but there's obviously plenty of that in Yelp reviews, so don't take our list as absolute. Every building below had a cumulative four-star or better Yelp rating, and many have unique attributes that put them on top. We've summed up those attributes for you. If you're disgruntled that the list is North Side-centric, we say that's inevitable considering the popular large rental communities are also North Side-centric. There are, however, a couple picks from the South Loop and one from Hyde Park. We should also note, we made a decision to avoid condo buildings with a culture of renting. That just blows up the field far too much. Got more for us to add, we're happy to abide. Keep the tips coming!
