A new neighborhood pharmacy is rarely cause for celebration, but the CVS that recently opened at Ashland and Division in Wicker Park isn't just any old drugstore. It's located in the gorgeous Home Bank & Trust building, with soaring stained-glass ceilings and handsome chandeliers. The exterior of the building is easier on the eyes, too, since the bricked-up windows have been uncovered. So yeah, it might be just a pharmacy, but it breathes some new life into an intersection — the Polish Triangle — that sorely needed it. In the building's basement, a new bar called The Bedford is scheduled to open next month. According to Eater Chicago, The Bedford will also contain some dazzling design, including (but not limited to!) the original vault entrance, a mosaic wall made from reclaimed black marble from the bank's main level, and the walls will be lined with thousands of copper and silver safe deposit boxes. The new CVS / Bedford isn't the only change coming to Wicker Park's Milwaukee Avenue retail corridor, though.
At Milwaukee and Honore, the site of a former Burger King, LG Development recently broke ground on a new 9,200-square-foot retail development that'll be anchored by the California-based chain Native Foods Cafe. The building's steel frame is already up, and the restaurant is set to open in late summer. Just a few doors north of there, Carhartt just opened its third US location, at 1520 N. Milwaukee. Our retail-obsessed sister site Racked Chicago has some intelligence on that. Check back later this afternoon, when we'll continue our trip along Milwaukee Ave in Bucktown.
