For those unacquainted with East Village and West Town, or for the well-acquainted who forget to lift their eyes and look around, Curbed presents to you its Architectural Walking Tour of East Village/West Town. Our 11 sites hit on the diversity of the 'hood's buildings, and the fresh mix of new million-dollar infill that illustrates the area's gentrification. Not normally thought of as a place to go get drunk on architecture, the area's actually got some very amusing blocks -in terms of contrast- house to house. Unlike neighboring Ukrainian Village, there are no landmark districts here, a reflection of the heterogeneity of its streets. This also means East Village/West town is free to evolve in random, sometimes exciting ways.
Our walking tour weaves you through side streets bracketed by Noble to the East, Western to the West, Grand to the South, and Augusta to the North, working around Ukrainian Village, but not entering it. Stick to the course, or chart your own. We're not sticklers.
