Mapping 10 Great Portage Park Homes Currently on the Market

View as Map

Filled with a ready supply of well-maintained, turn-of-the-century bungalows and renewed retail momentum, Portage Park has become a huge draw for those seeking single family homes. The re-energized Six Corners commercial district at Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue, spurred on by a city-sponsored master plan, has helped attract new tenants to the area including Aldi's, Culver's and Community Tavern. Along with proximity to the Blue Line and Metra, the new commercial activity has helped boost real estate values in the area -- 3-bed, 2-bath units have jumped 10.5 percent in the last two years, and 11.3% in the last year, according to figures obtained from Philip Schwartz, a broker and President of The Portage Park Neighborhood Association. To provide a sense of what's available in this fast-growing northwest side neighborhood, we put together cross-section of on-the-market homes and condos.

While the $380,000 ask is approaching the high-end of Portage Park real estate, this newly remodeled home still offers plenty of value. Going against the grain in a neighborhood where turn-of-the-century charm is often the selling point, this 4-bed 3-bath offers new finishes, granite countertops and hardwood floors.

Talk about traditional -- the carpeted first floor, detached garage and tile-covered rec room scream visit to grandma's house. But a solid brick 3-bed for $250,000 is nothing to laugh at, despite being off the beaten path.

An elegant outlier, this rehabbed brick home for $439,000 offers wide-open floor plan and a contemporary interior. The brick fireplace in the basement certainly doesn't hurt.
