A row of older industrial building on North Rockwell Avenue near the Chicago River’s North Branch could be getting a modern makeover and new life as an innovation hub. According to DNAinfo, former Redmoon Theater executive director Jim Lasko has unveiled plans to transform the masonry buildings at 3130-38 N. Rockwell Street in Avondale into a new makerspace and event venue. Dubbed Guild Row, the proposal would also include a space for woodworking as well as an industrial-grade kitchen for members to utilize, DNAinfo reports.
With a background in theater, Lasko is seeking a zoning reclassification which would allow for a medium-sized event space for Guild Row, as well as a spacious open-air courtyard, a zoning application reveals. In addition, the complex will boast nearly 2,300 square feet of office space and a large 4,250-square-foot meeting hall. The entire development will be capped with a rooftop patio and deck.
33rd Ward Alderman Deb Mell tells DNAinfo that she supports the plan so long as Lasko produces an adequate solution for parking.
