Coronavirus and shelter-in-place impact in Chicago

As COVID-19 spreads across the globe, precautions like social distancing, event cancellations, and even unnecessary panic shopping are underway.

As local, state, and national officials take steps to follow guidance from the Center for Disease Control, Illinois issued a “stay-at-home” order to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.

While many people will still go to work—such as those who work at grocery stores, transit agencies, and healthcare—most residents must remain inside as much as possible. Of course, all residents are still allowed to take walks outside, make trips to grocery stores, and get medical care. Clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, gas stations, restaurants offering delivery and take-out, and transit will all continue to operate.
