The third and final high-rise of the multiphase plan to redevelop the Atrium Village housing complex into Old Town Park is now officially under construction on Chicago’s Near North Side.
Developed by Vancouver-based Onni Group and designed by Chicago architecture firm Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, Old Town Park phase three will rise 41 stories and 447 feet. It will contain 456 rental units, office space on its lower levels, a sixth-floor tenant amenity deck, and a 193-car garage, according to its building permit.
Foundation work is underway along Hill Street, just east of the L tracks. The upcoming tower will join the 32-story Old Town Park phase one high-rise at nearby 1140 N. Wells Street. That building made headlines earlier in the summer for its bonkers $45,000-per-month penthouse, which set a record for Chicago’s most expensive rental apartment.
Meanwhile, work continues on the neighboring phase two tower, which broke ground at the corner of Wells and Hill streets in late 2017. Also designed by HPA, the 39-story building topped-off this summer and started pre-leasing its 428 apartments ahead of its planned opening in early 2020.
Old Town Park project also calls for new landscaping as well as the preservation and renovation of an existing nine-story building from the 1970s-era Atrium Village complex.
In the span of just a few years, Onni is quickly becoming one of the Near North Side’s busiest apartment developers. The firm completed The Hudson tower in 2017 and is currently wrapping up foundation work on a 41-story high-rise at 353 W. Grand Avenue in River North.
