The slender Streeterville tower climbs skyward

Going up!

Construction on Streeterville’s One Bennett Park skyscraper took nearly three years to complete. But you can now watch the entire process unfold in less than a minute.

A slick timelapse video recently published by EarthCam follows the luxurious combination rental and condo building at 451 E. Grand Avenue rise from its humble start as a dirt lot to its 836-foot-high crown.

Although it all happens in a few blinks of an eye, the construction method is on full display. Crews from Lendlease can be seen pouring the tower’s concrete skeleton and hoisting large precast exterior panels and windows into place.

Developed by Related Midwest, One Bennett Park features an Art Deco-inspired design by New York’s Robert A. M. Stern Architects. The building is the city’s first and only Stern tower and is Chicago’s tallest strictly residential skyscraper—meaning it lacks the hotel, office, or retail components of its taller cousins.

One Bennett welcomed its first renters last fall and condominium owners this spring. Earlier this month, Related Midwest opened the building’s namesake 1.7-acre park, designed by famed landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
