If the complimentary coffee can’t rouse you awake during a long workday, maybe a nap in a private room upstairs will.
At Working From__Fulton Market—which opened this week at The Hoxton Chicago—the lines are blurred between coworking space and traditional hotel.
The emphasis is on creating a “place that feels like home” for the laptop-and-Airpods class of freelancers and flexible small businesses looking for a fully-equipped communal space to work.
That means that paid members get 24-hour access to the designated coworking area and the bathrooms come equipped with showers. If the daybeds don’t cut it, there are “Duvet Days” for those who want to work in bed and a deep discount on the guest rooms upstairs for all-nighters.
The 23,000 square-foot workspace—located on the third and fourth floors of the 12-story boutique hotel at Lake and Green streets—features 294 desks, a collection of meeting rooms and private offices, two (currently snow-covered) terraces, and plenty of amenities.

Most members circulate in and out of an open office area with long communal tables separated by handsome midcentury modern furniture and shelves stocked with books curated by Chicago non-profit Open Books. A kitchen located in the middle of the space is full of help-yourself snacks (sour gummi worms!) and coffee. There’s also a cafe from Boka Restaurant Group that offers soups, sandwiches, light eats, and curated wine and beer list—all of which can be delivered directly to your desk.
Working From__ is the first coworking space from The Hoxton brand, which has been dubbed the “anti-hotel” for its unusual approach to hospitality. A second is opening next year in their London expansion hotel in January. There are currently nine locations worldwide and five in the United States (Chicago, Brooklyn, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco).
The Fulton Market District is quickly becoming the capital of coworking spaces in Chicago. The women-focused coworking space The Wing (811 W. Fulton Market) is around the corner, coworking giant WeWork has office space on the same block of Green Street, and you can find Soho House (113-125 N. Green), Spaces (159 N. Sangamon), and Industrious (500 Madison) within walking distance.
