Work on a glassy transit-oriented development (TOD) is moving into high gear at 4555 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. Slated to rise just steps from the newly overhauled Wilson CTA station, the 12-story project aims to deliver 149 rental units (seven affordable rate), ground floor retail space, and parking for a mere 29 vehicles.
Earlier this week, Uptown Update reported that demolition work on the site’s former El Pollo Loco restaurant was underway. The project then took another key step forward on Wednesday when it landed a construction permit for foundation work. A common practice in Chicago construction, foundation-only permits often precede the issuance of full building permits. A formal groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place in mid June.
Also known by the alternative address of 975 W. Wilson, the upcoming 134-foot structure comes from developer CRG and architect BatesForum. It will be joined by a number of nearby TOD projects such as 1050 W. Wilson and 4601 N. Broadway.
