Chance the Rapper buying $4 million condo in Streeterville

Chance the Rapper, Chicago’s beloved musician and a voice for change, is buying a $4 million condo in the Streeterville neighborhood.

The asking price of the 4,500-square-foot home is $4.025 million, which is down from $4.5 million when it first listed back in July, according to news first reported by Crain’s.

The sale is still pending, and won’t close until next week, so the final price isn’t known yet, according to the condo’s listing agent, Caryl Dillon of Compass. She declined to comment on anything other than the sale as the buyer requested privacy.

The two-bedroom property at 600 North Fairbanks Court was originally two separate condos which the owner combined into a sprawling v-shaped home. The extensive condo renovations were done by Norsman Architects and took nearly two years to complete. The building, designed by Helmut Jahn, was completed in 2007.

The contemporary condo comes with some seriously killer views of the city and Lake Michigan—the floor-to-ceiling windows wrapping around the unit are just shy of a 360-degrees. It also features clean lines, black walnut millwork, three outdoor terraces, and an exercise room with an attached spa (steam room and sauna!).

Here’s the best room in the unit—a soundproof library that’s equipped with a specialized exhaust system to clear our cigar smoke and an entertainment system that’s wired to 15 televisions throughout the home. It’s also the only interior room, which makes it ideal for watching movies in theater-style darkness.

Back in January, Chance hinted that he might have been shopping for another place when he tweeted about wanting a condo in the Tribune Tower after it was reported that the historic building would be converted.

Lisa Thompson-Bennett of Crown Heights Realty, who is Chance’s mother and real estate agent, did not respond to a request for comment as of Friday morning.
