Eight-story development will fill narrow gap on Randolph Street’s Restaurant Row

Vacant lots are quickly disappearing in Chicago’s booming Fulton Market District

Another boutique office development is headed to the Fulton Market District, replacing a narrow parking lot along Chicago’s Restaurant Row. Slated for 730 W. Randolph Street, the eight-story project recently secured the blessing of the Neighbors of the West Loop (NOWL), according to the organization’s website.

The slender building comes from Chicago-based firm Hirsch MPG Architects and represents a “contemporary take on a turn-of-the-century building,” its designers told NOWL. The all-masonry structure will top out at 126 feet and will feature ground-floor restaurant space, a rooftop deck for office tenants, and loading off of the rear alleyway.

Because the development headed to 730 W. Randolph Street does not require a zoning change from the city, work can begin relatively soon. The project will apply for its construction permit this year and aims to break ground in early 2019, according to NOWL’s summary.

Meanwhile, across the street at 725 W. Randolph Street, an Equinox-branded hotel, health club, and apartment tower is also expected to begin work in early 2019. The Roger Ferris + Partners-designed skyscraper was approved this summer to soar 52 stories and 615 feet—making it Chicago’s tallest high-rise west of the Kennedy Expressway.
