New nine-story condo development cleared to rise in Chicago’s West Loop

The 28-unit building is the first of two planned by its developer

Booth Hansen

A nine-story condo project at 1111 W. Washington Boulevard in Chicago’s booming West Loop is ready for take-off. Located not far from the future McDonald’s corporate headquarters at 110 N. Carpenter, the Booth Hansen-designed development replaces a parking lot and two-story office building that were once part of Oprah’s Harpo Studios television production campus. Known as “Hayden West Loop,” the project landed a construction permit for its caisson-supported foundation.

The building about to rise along Washington is actually the first of two buildings planned by Chicago-based Peerless Real Estate Investment. The second structure at 19 N. May Street is expected to start at a later date to better allow the current commercial tenants time to move out. Each building is slated to contain 28 large, multi-bedroom condominiums and two parking spots per unit.

The Hayden is not the only new high-end condo project headed to the immediate area. To the east, Belgravia Group is wrapping up a six-story, 69-unit project at 27 N. Aberdeen known as CA Washington. A little further up the street, 900 West—a ten-story, 22-unit condo development from Taris Real Estate—broke ground recently. A nearby 19-story extended-stay Hyatt hotel from Sterling Bay is also in the planning phase.
