Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a regular column exploring what you can rent for a set dollar amount in different neighborhoods. Is one person's studio another person's townhouse? Let's find out. Today we are looking at apartments at or under $1,350 per month on Chicago’s northwest side.

Described as a total gut rehab in the listing notes, this two-bedroom Logan Square apartment near the border of Hermosa is close to grocery shopping and transit on Fullerton Avenue. One off-street parking space is included in the $1,325 rent and cats are negotiable. No security deposit here, but be prepared to shell out a $500 move-in fee.

This rental listing is for a newer construction condo in the Irving Park area. Finishes are nicer than your old school Chicago apartment in a two- or three-flat and there are added perks like central air and in-unit laundry. It’s a little suspect as the listing agent appears to use the same images across a few different rental ads, so you may have to see it in person to know exactly what you’re getting. However, with all of the amenities, it’s tough to beat the $1,325 rent.

Here’s a two-bedroom unit on the border of Logan Square and Hermosa that is asking $1,350 on the dot. The finishes are nicer than the usual rental grade stuff you may find in the price range, but it’s not exactly a “luxury” unit either. Bedrooms appear to be spacious enough to fit larger beds in them and still have some extra room. Sorry dog owners, but no pooches are allowed. Cats are welcome, but there’s a $200 pet fee.

If you head north just a few blocks into Avondale, you’ll find that this two-bedroom apartment in a brick three-flat is also seeking the same $1,350 rent. Big pluses here are central heat and AC, a dishwasher, and a nice backyard area. Cats are welcome and there’s a traditional security deposit versus a move-in fee for this one. Garage parking is available for an additional $100 per month.
