As dozens of new developments flood the pipeline for Chicago’s booming West Loop neighborhood, one such project is ready to make the jump to construction. With a single-story commercial building now out of the way, a ten-story condo development slated for the northwest corner of Washington and Peoria has received a building permit for foundation work.
Dubbed 900 West—not to be confused with an unrelated development on Randolph known by the same name—the project at 900 W. Washington comes from developer Taris Real Estate and architecture firm Northworks. Its 22 for-sale residences will feature heated polished floors, high-end bathroom and kitchen fixtures, 10'6" ceilings, and in-unit elevator access via biometric retinal scan.
The luxurious units in 900 West are certainly testing the upper boundaries of West Loop affordability. In May, Crain’s reported that one especially pricey condo in the unbuilt structure had gone under contract for more than $5 million—quadrupling the neighborhood’s previous home sale record. Building delivery is on track for summer of 2018.
