River North’s Acme Hotel tries its hand at the coworking trend

The hotel’s new second floor amenity space will be accessible by hotel guests and the public

Acme Hotel

As more Chicagoans find themselves working outside traditional office settings, River North’s Acme Hotel has taken the wraps off renovations aimed at embracing the so-called “coworking” crowd. Since opening in 2012 at 15 E. Ohio Street, the self-described “boutique hotel alternative with an eye for design and a high-tech vibe” hasn’t quite attracted the latte-and-laptop set to the same extent as competitors like adjacent Freehand Hotel. Acme’s new space looks to remedy this.

Dubbed ‘Between,’ the second floor lounge hopes to embrace changing ways people work and collaborate. It checks the expected boxes by offering cozy seating, a fireplace, complimentary wifi, and an abundance of electrical outlets—a no-brainer that a surprising number of new developments still manage to overlook.

In addition to guests of the hotel, Acme’s new coworking space is also available to the public. With its free, bottomless coffee it should attract more than a few work-from-home downtown locals seeking a change of scenery. Between is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
