Located less than a quarter mile east of Humboldt Park proper, a vacant lot at the northwest corner of W. North and N. Talman avenues is ready to be replaced by a new six-story development. The City of Chicago just issued a building permit for developer Property Consultants Realty to begin work on the project which will deliver 30 rental apartments and ground floor office space.
The permit also specifies a 24-space parking garage and a resident-accessible rooftop deck. Chicago-based Hanna Architects is listed as the project’s design architect. Known by its address of 1554 N. Talman, the new construction will occupy the site of the old Wrightwood Auto Parts Co.—a commercial structure that was torn down in 2016.
Thanks to its proximity to hot neighborhoods like Ukrainian Village as well as the 606 Trail, eastern Humboldt Park has experienced flurry of real estate activity in recent years including a rise in home flipping, single family deconversions, and new construction. A few realtors have even started describing the area as West Bucktown/Wicker Park.
