A second meeting to discuss plans to improve pedestrian safety and congestion in and around Wicker Park’s busy Damen, North, and Milwaukee avenues will take place Wednesday evening. Hosted by the Chicago Department of Transportation in coordination with 1st Ward Alderman Proco Joe Moreno, 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins, and 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack, the event will be the second of two planned community meetings to discuss the Complete Streets Improvements initiative for Milwaukee Avenue.

But as CDOT and neighborhood stakeholders work to roll out improvements to the intersection sometimes referred to as “The Crotch” by residents, the nonprofit alternative transportation advocacy group is urging the city to consider new bike lanes along Milwaukee Avenue. According to DNAinfo, the petition from Active Transportation Alliance has received over 1,400 signatures.

This week’s meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at the A.N. Pritzker School’s auditorium (2009 W. Schiller Street) starting with a presentation at 6:00 p.m. and ending with an open house between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Meeting materials can be found on the Chicago Complete Streets website.
