For $650,000, this grand 4,500-square-foot mansion in the Jackson Park Highlands District can be yours. Built almost exactly 100 years ago, the listing agent indicates that this large house was designed by the architect Charles Herrick Hammond. While the Colonial Revival style is not exactly the most common style found in Chicago, the house features a lot of living space and some unique amenities.

The house boast some classic architectural ornamentation and details, but one of the big highlights here is the old formal ballroom. In addition, the four bathrooms feature a 1950s flair to them with pink, blue, and yellow tile. While complete (and completely functional), there’s room for some tasteful updating. And with a location just blocks from the future Obama Presidential Center, there’s a lot of new investment heading to this corner of the city.

A house at this price range is unheard of in any lakefront community on the North Side, but the grand homes that line the South Side’s lakefront are still within the reach of many. This lovely piece of Chicago architecture can be had for the same price that condos in other neighborhoods are going for.
