An affordable-rate housing complex is ready to break ground on Chicago’s South Side. Located mere feet from a Metra rail station, the transit-oriented development will serve both the Brainerd and Auburn Gresham communities. Known as the Brainerd Park Apartments, the upcoming building will feature 36 affordable rental units and on-site parking for 28 vehicles.

Developer Full Circle Communities and partner Christian Community Health Center acquired the 12 lots at 8902-8956 S. Loomis Street for $1 each from the City of Chicago. That sale—plus a $1.9 million multi-family loan agreement—was authorized by the Chicago City Council in April. A freshly issued building permit estimates construction work to cost roughly $8.6 million.

According to Full Circle, the South Side development is expected to open in the summer of 2018. Architectural design of the rather conservative looking two-story complex is being led by Michigan-based firm Hooker DeJong.
