After its ceremonial ground breaking earlier this month, the 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development known as The Lincoln Common has released a new set of more detailed renderings showing a tweaked design. The latest images show a revised facade treatment for the development’s twin 20-story residential towers as well as a better look at the 105,000 square feet of planned retail space.
Nearly ready to rise at the 6-acre site of Lincoln Park’s former Children's Memorial Hospital at the corner of Fullerton, Lincoln, and Halsted, the project comes from Chicago-based architecture firms Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Antunovich Associates. It will contain 540 rental units, new condominiums, an office building, and the adaptive reuse of the old hospital’s turn-of-the-century boiler house structure.
The plan also features a below-grade loading dock and over an acre of open space tied together by a central courtyard. The hospital’s existing 1,044-stall parking garage will remain but adds new ground floor commercial bays and an aesthetic makeover. According to the website of developer McCaffery interests, the changes will see the number of parking stalls reduced to 850.
So far the only construction permit issued for The Lincoln Common has been for the seven-story assisted living structure that will replace the similarly-sized Nellie Black building at 700 W. Fullerton Parkway. The entire mixed-use complex is expected to open some time in 2019.
