A pop-up art museum is preparing to dock along the new Chicago Riverwalk this summer. The so-called Floating Museum, a project which seeks to bring art to underserved communities through the use of the city’s waterways, will host events such as movie nights and exhibitions along the Chicago River for this summer’s annual Night Out in the Parks program.
The project comes from artists and designers Faheem Majeed, Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford, and Andrew Schachman, who have previously launched a crowdfunding campaign to see an “art barge” installation in Calumet Park. According to Time Out Chicago, this summer’s programming will see the Floating Museum make stops at the Resource Center in Riverdale, Eleanor Park, the Chicago Riverwalk and Navy Pier. According to the group’s official website, the Floating Museum is currently working on an exhibition with the DuSable Museum of African American History.
