Chicago Architecture Biennial unveils list of neighborhood anchor sites

While this year’s Chicago Architecture Biennial will be based out of the Chicago Cultural Center in the Loop as the inaugural edition was in 2015, the Biennial has teamed up with the Chicago Community Trust to expand into six additional anchor sites throughout the city.

Yesterday, the Chicago Architecture Biennial released the list of community anchor sites that will participate in programming and events for this year’s Biennial. The sites include the Beverly Arts Center in the Beverly community, the DePaul Art Museum in Lincoln Park, the DuSable Museum of African American History in Washington Park, the Hyde Park Art Center in Hyde Park, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen, and the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Humboldt Park.

The focus on cultural art institutions and museums is no coincidence either as the Biennial is seeking a more inclusive approach to this year’s programming by expanding its reach into the city’s neighborhoods. According to the Biennial team, the community anchor sites will feature unique programming and events that compliment the activities and main exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center.

The Chicago Architecture Biennial unveiled the list of participants for this year’s edition last month, however, details on programming and a full list of program partners will come later in the spring.
