The Midtown Athletic Club on the border of Lincoln Park and Bucktown is gearing up for the grand opening of its new expansion, but there are a number of surprises in store—namely that a new fitness-centric hotel will be opening at the location. According to Chicago magazine, which got the scoop on the renderings and details regarding the project, a new 55-room hotel will be opening at the athletic club in July when the expansion is completed and formally unveiled.
Unlike like most hotel projects, which feature some sort of fitness offerings like a gym, a pool, or maybe even a vintage-inspired boxing ring, the hotel at Midtown Athletic Club is more or less the other way around as it’ll be an athletic center first, but an athletic club with a boutique hotel offering. Chicago magazine suggests that this unique arrangement will give the Midtown Athletic Club a “lux sports resort” vibe.

Evanston’s DMAC Architecture was tapped to lead the design effort on the new glassy addition. However, Venus Williams’s V Starr design group will be making over one for hotel’s four suites and the athletic center’s tennis lounge.
The new addition will also make room for expanded fitness programs and new swimming pools. According to Chicago mag, the club will feature four new swimming pools, including a 100’ outdoor pool that will be utilized as an ice rink during winter months. The club is also opening a new yoga studios, a cycling studio, golf simulators, and a new basketball court.
Expect to spend somewhere in the range of $200 for a hotel room. The new 575,000-square-foot Midtown Athletic Club and hotel will open July 15.
