Another CTA rail station is planned for the ever-expanding Green Line. The city has announced plans to construct a new station at Damen and Lake which will fill in a nearly one and a half mile gap between the California and Ashland stations, Crain’s reports. The station will provide service to businesses throughout the Kinzie Industrial Corridor as well as visitors heading to and from the United Center.
The CTA plans to start construction sometime in the autumn of 2018 and expects to complete the project by 2020. According to the Tribune, the project will be funded by the Kinzie Industrial Corridor TIF district. The new Damen and Lake station will be just one of a few new stations to open along the Green Line in recent years, including the Morgan station which opened in 2012 and the Cermak–McCormick Place station which opened in 2015.
