The Chicago Housing Authority announced yesterday afternoon that it has selected the Texas-based Hunt Development Group to lead the next phase of construction at the former Cabrini-Green site. Plans for the upcoming phase include nearly 500 new units of mixed-income housing, 32,900-square feet of retail space, and 1.2 acres of open park space.

The new residences and retail will be spread over a 6.9-acre chunk of publicly owned property at the Larrabee Street and Clybourn Avenue intersection. A 21-story residential tower will overlook the redeveloped site which includes a string of mid-rise buildings and townhouses.

The unit breakdown for the next phase of Cabrini-Green redevelopment will reserve 183 units for CHA residents and 82 as affordable units while 217 will be rented at market rate.
