A coordinated bag check operation between the Chicago Police Department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security at the Addison Red Line station yesterday surprised many riders, causing confusing and the spread of misinformation over social media. While the Chicago Police Department confirmed that agents were conducting a bag search, rumors suggesting that the search was immigration related quickly flooded various social media outlets.
The CTA, along with other agencies and elected officials, has issued a public statement which attempts to offer some clarity on yesterday’s search at the Addison station.
