The first round of voting in the 2017 Curbed Cup has come to an end. The majority of top seeds advanced, except Avondale which was knocked out by Wicker Park and Bucktown.
Bowmanville appeared to get some solid support, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Woodlawn, No. 1 seed and last year’s winner. Logan Square eeked out a 1 percent win against Hyde Park which makes for an interesting 2nd round match-up against Wicker Park and Bucktown.
On the flip side, the South Loop soared ahead with a 79 percent lead against Curbed Cup newcomer Garfield Park. Last year, Uptown and Lakeview both advanced to the second round, but facing off in a match-up this year it was Uptown that moved forward.
After a banner year, the West Loop and Fulton Market unsurprisingly made it to the next round. Lakeshore East had quite a bit of momentum this year, until recently, but it was enough to propel into the Elite Eight. In the only other tournament upset, No. 12 seed Edgewater forged ahead of No. 6 seed Bronzeville.
The next round of voting poses a few interesting match-ups, and its not clear yet how things might pan out. The polls for the 2nd round open up Monday, Dec. 18.
