Three South Loop two-bedroom condos for under $450K

Ditch the downtown apartment and start putting your monthly rent towards a mortgage

Jameson Sotheby's Intl Realty

The South Loop is one of the hottest areas in Chicago, and with a flood of major new projects on the way, it’s going to get even busier in the coming years. Similar to the West Loop, the South Loop has a large inventory of older industrial buildings that have been converted to residences over the years. It’s also close to the central business district and much of the neighborhood has necessary amenities like public transit and grocery shopping within walking distance. Here’s a look at a few different two-bedroom, two-bathroom units all under $450,000 that have recently listed in the neighborhood.

1601 S. Michigan Avenue #106

If you’re looking for the industrial vibe, you’ll certainly find it in this two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit on Michigan Avenue. It’s a duplexed unit with very tall ceilings and an open living room space, however the ceiling in the lofted area is cluttered with all kinds of pipes and vents. Nevertheless, with 1,200-square-feet of space and two bedrooms, there’s enough room to spread out and relax. Garage parking is included in the $390 monthly assessment. This one is asking $350,000.

1841 S. Calumet Avenue #1706

This corner unit at Museum Park Place has some wide open views of the city—or rather, Solider Field and McCormick Place. Still, it’s hard to argue with east-facing windows. The building is a fully-loaded one with all sorts of amenities, but you’re going to be paying for them through the $862 monthly assessment. This two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo is seeking $370,000.

1530 S. State Street #907

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit at Dearborn Tower manages to make a cold, loft-style residence feel warm and welcoming. There’s a lot of earthy colors and some ornate lighting fixtures to draw your attention from the raw concrete ceilings. But the highlight may be the views from the balcony. It’d be the perfect spot to unwind after a long workweek. This one is asking $449,999 and has a monthly assessment of $712.
