Watch the demolition of Logan Square’s infamous Mega Mall in this new drone video

The iconic indoor market turned street art installation will give way to mixed-use redevelopment

While a photoset from urban explorer ‘Nitram242’ gave us one final look inside Logan’s Square’s doomed Mega Mall shopping center, a new aerial video provides a unique bird’s eye perspective of crews tearing down the soon-to-disappear neighborhood landmark. Demolition work to prepare the Mega Mall site for redevelopment began in December and, as evident in the video, has already progressed quite far.

Filmmaker Jordan Miller tells DNAinfo that his main motivation for making the video was to “say goodbye” to the Mega Mall and its recent role serving as a showcase for some of the city’s most colorful street art. Miller is friends with a number of the individuals who helped transform the exterior of the shuttered indoor market into a vibrant—and very temporary—work of art.

The oblong Mega Mall site stretches from Sacramento to Logan Boulevard along Milwaukee Avenue and will be the future home of a new mixed-use development dubbed Logan’s Crossing. It is expected to deliver 250 new apartments plus a Jewel-Osco supermaket, Xsport Fitness, and Starbucks to the rapidly-changing Chicago neighborhood.
