Across the country, renters and tenant advocates are planning rallies to protest the rising rents seen in many major cities. Called the Renters Day of Action, the effort aims to raise awareness of the runaway rent increases seen not only in some Chicago neighborhoods, but in popular neighborhoods throughout the country. There are dozens of events and rallies taking place in cities across the country today, and for Chicago, a rally is planned at 4 p.m. at Daley Plaza. Some of the goals the rally in Chicago hopes to achieve are limitations to Just Cause evictions and the implementation of the Chicago Healthy Homes Inspection Program (CHHIP). Several rallies against new apartment developments had been previously organized in areas like Logan Square, but this afternoon, the fight is being taken downtown.
