The 26-story Studio Gang-designed tower known as Solstice on the Park is finally preparing to break ground just north of Jackson Park on Chicago’s south side. At a recent meeting with the Local School Council (LSC) for neighboring Bret Harte Elementary, developer MAC Properties and contractor Linn-Mathes revealed that construction fencing for Solstice is scheduled to go up on October 3. According to Hyde Park Herald, the development team also listened to and addressed additional safety and logistical concerns raised by the site’s proximity to the school.
Hints of a possible redesign emerged earlier this summer when new images of the tower appeared on Studio Gang’s website. The updated renderings replaced the white and lime green coloration and irregular patterns of the original design with something a little more uniform and gray. Curiously, Solstice on the Park has since been removed from Gang’s official website — perhaps a clue that further aesthetic revisions are in the works.
Construction is expected to take just under two years with tenant move-in anticipated for late spring of 2018. Originally envisioned as 145 condominiums, the long-dormant project was re-approved to instead feature 250 rental apartments earlier this year.
