The revised seven-story project at Clark and Addison will now be known as Hotel Zachary

Hotel Zachary Chicago

The long-discussed hotel slated for the northwest corner of Clark and Addison across from Wrigley Field has been rechristened Hotel Zachary in honor of the 1914 ballpark’s architect Zachary Taylor Davis. In addition to ditching "Hotel Wrigley" as its placeholder name, the project's appearance has undergone a notable revision. The faux-historic look with its iron arches and old-timey baseball theming that was first presented in 2013 has given way to decidedly more contemporary design penned by architect VOA Associates.

The project is being developed by Hickory Street Capital which — like the Cubs team and Wrigley Field itself — falls under the control of the Ricketts family. The seven-story, 238,000-square-foot hotel will be operated in partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and will feature retail, meeting space, and 175 guest rooms.

Envisioned as a year-round destination, Hotel Zachary hopes to draw visitors and locals to a number of non-sports bar restaurants. Local groups such as One Off Hospitality, Folkart Restaurant Management, Fifty/50, and 4 Star Restaurant Group have been announced as future operators.

"Our customers are not just Cubs fans," Hickory Street Capital VP Eric Nordness tells the Chicago Tribune. "There are 81 home games, plus playoffs, but we need to be (open) 365 days a year." Other announced retail tenants include Wintrust Bank and McDonalds — who previously operated a restaurant on the site.

Expected to open in early 2018, the Zachary is one of several new developments in the works at the intersection of Clark and Addison. The project is directly across the street from Wrigley Field’s revamped 40,000-square-foot plaza with a new office and retail building. Hotel Zachary will also be kiddy corner to the upcoming Addison + Clark mixed-use development which will bring 148 apartments, 405 parking space, and a multi-screen cinema to Wrigleyville.
