David Adler-designed Morton Salt Estate returns with huge price cut

This midwestern palace is now seeking $4.9M

After making a huge splash on the market nearly two years ago when the Morton Salt Estate listed for $8.9 million, the palatial mansion has returned once again, this time asking nearly half of its initial price. Built in 1912, the mansion was designed by famed Chicago-area architect David Adler and features over 10,000-square-feet of living space set on nearly two acres of coveted Lake Forest property. Described as a "midwest palace in Illinois" by the Wall Street Journal, the mansion is certainly one of the most grandiose in the area, and one of the most stately homes currently on the market in the Chicago area. It’s certainly a home fit for a king, but the asking price is something more in the budget of a feudal lord. This piece of Chicago architectural history has returned asking $4.9 million.
