After spending a year on the market, the full-floor unit on the 52nd floor of the Waldorf Astoria formally closed yesterday, selling for a whopping $11.7 million. The sale comes just days after bankruptcy attorney Peter Francis Geraci closed on his raw Ritz-Carlton penthouse, which he paid $8.6 million. As of yesterday, Geraci’s sale was the priciest of 2016, but today, the Waldorf Astoria sale has become the biggest purchase in Chicago this year. According to the Chicago Tribune, Igor Chernomzav, an options trader, sold the unit. Chernomzav purchased the unit in 2010, paying $8.18 million for it. Both the seller and the brokers working on the deal have a reason to celebrate this week. Pass the champagne over this way please.
