Launching Today: New Water Taxi Service to Chicago Avenue

New, 1 comment

Trips to and from the new stop will be offered free of charge through June 3rd

Starting today the Chicago Water Taxi system will serve a new dock located at 600 W. Chicago. The weekday-only stop will offer direct connections to the Loop, Ogilvie and Union train stations, and the North Avenue stop which opened along the Chicago River’s north branch in the summer of 2013. While a single trip aboard the Chicago Water Taxi typically runs $4, rides to and from Chicago Avenue will be offered free of charge now through June 3rd in celebration of the newly expanded service.

The additional transit option is a real boon for commuters to the former Montgomery Ward building at 600 W. Chicago. Beyond the new water taxi dock, the 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse turned tech hub is also planning a new rooftop amenity level for its tenants which include a number of tech firms such as Groupon, Echo Global Logistics, and Belly. Designed by local architecture firm von Weise Associates, the new outdoor space is expected to come online later this year.
