Alderman Moreno is proposing 88 units of affordable housing in Logan Square

Amidst the growing voices demanding affordable housing in Logan Square, Alderman Proco Joe Moreno has announced a new transit-oriented affordable housing development for Milwaukee Avenue near the Congress Theater. According to an announcement from the alderman, the proposed development would feature 88 units of affordable housing on what is currently a surface parking lot at 2031 N. Milwaukee Avenue. The development, called the John Pennycuff Memorial Apartments at Robert Castillo Plaza, would be built using TIF dollars and Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) funds. The number of parking spaces is not mentioned, but due to its TOD nature, the ratio will certainly be much less than 1:1.

The alderman is hosting an open house for the development this Saturday, May 21, at the Congress Pizzeria restaurant next door to the surface parking lot. The open house will start at 2:30 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. The open house will take place just hours after a protest against Alderman Moreno is scheduled to begin. The full announcement from Alderman Moreno is below.
