Just a couple blocks north of Wicker Park/Noble Square’s Polish Triangle, work is ready to begin on a new nine-unit condominium project slated for 1429 N. Ashland Avenue. Yesterday, DNAinfo reported the issuance of a demolition permit for the property’s existing one-story building that has long been occupied by Soapy’s Laundromat. Wasting little time, the city has granted a follow-up permit green-lighting construction of the four-story development.
The project comes from developer DB Homes and features three-bedroom, two-bathroom residences priced in the $600,000-700,000 range. Designed by Hanna Architects, the brick-clad building also features ground floor office space, a roof deck, and 13-car garage accessible from a rear alleyway.
While the 1429 N. Ashland may not be as tall and flashy as the neighboring rental projects like Wicker Park Connection, 1624 W. Division Street, and 1237-53 N. Milwaukee, new condo construction is a positive sign for a Chicago market that has been somewhat sluggish to recover from the great crash.
