Chicago homeowners looking for a little bit of relief from last year’s major property tax hike are running out of time as the deadline to apply is this coming Friday, December 30. While some homeowners were hit with sticker shock when they opened the second installment property tax letters from Cook County, the rebate being offered by the city maxes out at $200. In order to be eligible for the rebate, homeowners must have had a reported income lower than $75,000 in 2015. In addition, property owners must have received the county’s Homeowners' Exemption, be current on property tax payments, and not owe any debt to the city.
Those wishing to apply for the property tax rebate must apply in person at one of nearly 30 participating processing centers.
