Own this partially renovated 19th-century Winnetka mansion for $2.2M

New, 4 comments

The 8,000-square-foot suburban home features a combination of original details and modern upgrades

Built in 1898, this positively enormous mansion in suburban Winnetka, Illinois offers seven bedrooms and a living room and library sporting rich wood paneling, and detailed plaster ceilings. The home’s original details and handsome bones make it the ideal backdrop for decor either traditional or contemporary—as shown in the listing photos.

While owning any historic home comes with its share of unexpected maintenance headaches, prospective buyers here can at least take comfort in knowing that the roof and kitchen were upgraded in 2012. Other nice features include hardwood floors, crown moldings, a swimming pool, four-car garage, and a decently-sized 3/4 acre lot. The current state of the home’s eight bathrooms, however, remains a mystery.

Though the asking price of $2,199,000 certainly represents a hefty chunk of change for any buyer, the property is far from Winnetka’s most expensive home currently for sale. In fact, this home doesn’t even crack the top 35 priciest active listings in the extremely affluent North Shore community.
