Report: McDonald’s opts more space in new West Loop HQ

The company has plans for the new building’s ground floor retail space

McDonald’s has reportedly super-sized its planned corporate headquarters in Chicago’s hot Fulton Market District. While the fast food giant was initially expected to occupy roughly 390,000 square feet of Sterling Bay’s 600,000-square-foot development slated for 110 N. Carpenter Street after the firm departs its suburban Oak Brook campus in 2018, Crain’s reports that Micky D’s now plans to lease "nearly 500,000 square feet" in the new Gensler-designed building.

While the final number remains in flux as McDonald’s continues to work on a deal for an unspecified amount of retail space on the ground floor of the nine-story structure, Crain’s reports that an increase was indeed confirmed by McDonald’s rep. It’s unclear what the company might have planned for 110 N. Carpenter’s retail space. Might Randolph Street's "Restaurant Row" see the golden arches in the near future?
