Gold Coast Viceroy Hotel Scores Its First Construction Permit

New, 10 comments

The downtown area is poised to get one more highrise construction site as the upcoming Viceroy Hotel for the Gold Coast has received a permit to start work on the 18-story tower that is planned for 1118 N. State Street. Announced last March, Viceroy Hotel Group and Convexity Properties are taking over the neighborhood's old Cedar Hotel, but will incorporate the facade of the four-story brick building into the new development. Chicago's Goettsch Partners, which has been working on the upcoming LondonHouse hotel project in the Loop, is leading the design duties. The permit estimates that foundation work for the project will cost around $7 million. Once construction crews begin digging in along State Street, the project will become the city's 35th active highrise construction site.
