The Chicago Riverwalk expansion isn't the only construction project taking place along Wacker Drive this winter as work continues on the Renaissance hotel's new third-floor rooftop bar. Joining the ranks of other popular rooftop destinations such as Cerise at the Virgin Hotel, Roof on theWit, and Cindy's at the Chicago Athletic Association, the yet-to-be-named bar and eatery at the Renaissance will offer patrons a direct line of sight to the river below. The indoor/outdoor space is expected to accommodate 160 guests.
The addition was penned by Chicago firm Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture with interior design duties being handled by local hospitality specialists The Gettys Group. While last year's phase one saw a complete renovation of the Renaissance's dated lobby and upgrades to guest rooms, the rooftop project is part of an $8 million second phase which also includes an overhaul of the hotel's 3,000-square-foot ballroom, according to Crain's. Work on the rooftop is expected to wrap up in March, well ahead of spring bellini weather.
