New River North Condo Tower Preparing for Construction

New, 7 comments

A tower crane permit has just been issued for 400 W Huron, indicating that construction of the new condo tower planned for the site will likely begin in the coming weeks. Unveiled just about a year ago, developer Smithfield Properties proposed demolishing their current HQ and replace it with a new 15-story, 46-unit condominium development. The unit count has since been dropped to 26 condos in the form of a Berkelhamer Architects-designed charcoal-colored tower. At the time the project was first announced, few very developers were proposing new condos for the greater downtown area. However, things have changed in the last year, and more condos are on the way. Smithfield had listed a number of units from the building for sale at the beginning of the year, but now it's looking like the project is entering its next phase: construction.
