Just a couple of weeks ago, the Chicago Department of Transportation started work on the protected bike lane for Clybourn Avenue and now the organization is wrapping up construction on the raised bicycle lane along Roosevelt Road. Raised to sidewalk level, the new bike lanes place bicyclists away from direct pathway of vehicle traffic, allowing for a safer and faster commute. Similar to the protected lane on Clybourn, the new bike lane on Roosevelt Road is part of a pilot program, but the city could eventually see more raised bike lanes if the project is deemed a success. Construction on the bike lane started last summer, and when completed, it will stretch from State Street to Indiana Avenue.
